Bathrooms get dirty so quickly due to frequent use, high humidity and moisture. A deep bathroom clean is one of the top priorities in most people’s cleaning routines. So, if you’re here to learn how to deep clean a bathroom or simply brush up on some new hacks, then you’re in the right place! Here are a few top tips to get you started:
Top Tip – Play some music! If you’re someone who’s not a fan of cleaning and need a bit of a boost, playing music helps make the task fun and energetic. You can boogie while you work to help the time go a little faster.
Top Tip – Try a new, exciting product. Trying something new can help to motivate you to put on your cleaning cap and get going. Keep reading to find our top recommended Marigold products.
Top Tip – Once the bathroom cleaning is complete, treat yourself! This could be a nice cup of tea or a relaxing soak in your squeaky-clean bathtub. This will make the task feel a lot more rewarding and is a well-deserved treat for your hard work.
Fed up of soap scum leaving smears on your bathroom tiles? Cleaning bathroom tiles and grout is a key task to reduce limescale build up.
Step 1 – First, create your own natural solution to break down grime, mix equal parts of distilled white vinegar and warm water and spray down your surfaces.*
Step 2 - Leave it to soak in and do its work for 5 minutes.
Step 3 - Thoroughly wipe down the surface with a microfibre cloth, working from top to bottom, moving in a zigzag pattern . This helps to cover every part of the surface and wipe away any residue rather than just moving it elsewhere on the surface. Rinse the surface and cloth with clean water, wring out excess water and repeat; working from top to bottom.
Top Tip – don’t want to stand in a slippery bath tub to wipe the walls down? If you’ll use a mop on floor tiles, why not try it on wall tiles too? Try using a clean, light, flat mop to get target those hard to reach places.
Tired of having a slimy sink? Here are 3 simple steps you can take to wash away gunk and remove grime…
Step 1 – Pour a layer of the same solution you created for the bathroom tiles all over the sink and leave it to soak.* You may decide to add a squeeze of lemon juice to the solution for its anti-bacterial properties.
Step 2 – Starting from top to bottom, wipe down the sink, counter top and basin, paying extra attention to the plug hole and any stubborn marks such as dried up toothpaste. Rinse the cloth with clean water and repeat the process again.
Step 3 – Dry the basin, using a dry cloth, wipe down the sink until it is thoroughly dry for that extra shine.
Top Tip – avoid using scourers (unless they are non-scratch), stiff-bristled brushes or any other abrasive cleaning tools as this may scratch the surface of your sink. Whether you have a porcelain, ceramic, stone or metal sink, always opt for a soft cloth to prevent any damage.
Top Tip - The more often you clean your bathroom, the easier it is to stay on top of it. We recommend deep cleaning your bathroom weekly and giving high use areas, such as sinks, a couple of extra wipe downs throughout the week. For the weekly tasks, follow our Simple Bathroom Cleaning Checklist in our Spring Cleaning Checklist Blog.
If you clean your bathroom frequently, it should take around 25-30 minutes to complete (depending on the size of your bathroom). Quick wipe downs should take a maximum 5 minutes and will help keep those weekly cleans as quick as possible.
Top Tip – Regularly clean any bathroom accessories, décor and appliances, such as toothbrushes. With the bathroom being a moist environment, dirt can easily leak from one object onto another. Also, don’t forget to clean commonly missed places such as inside toothbrush holders, underneath cupboards and inside drawers and bins.
Top Tip - Always protect your hands from warm water and domestic detergents by wearing a pair of rubber gloves. Our Marigold Longer Bathroom Gloves are specially designed for dirty, splashy jobs, as they have long cuffs for extra protection. Plus, the fitted wrists and roll top cuffs, mean they don’t roll down letting water in. Alternatively, if you’re allergic to latex or have sensitive skin, you may prefer to try our Marigold Gloves For Sensitive Skin. These gloves are made from nitrile, a latex free alternative to natural rubber.
Top Tip – Colour Code Your Deep Cleaning with the Marigold Let It Shine On and On! Microfibre Cloths. This handy pack of 3 different coloured cloths means you can assign each cloth to a different task or area. For example, pink for the sink, blue for the loo. When dirty, you can simply pop them in the washing machine, up to 60℃.
